That’s all that needs to be done for the CROP Hunger Walk. These two simple actions alone on my part seem to make little difference in alleviating world hunger or hunger in northern Michigan. But these two actions multiplied by hundreds of others does effect relief. I’m participating in my 9th CROP Hunger Walk here in Traverse City. The event is a time when friends and neighbors from area churches come together by gathering pledges of support for those who walk throughout the world every day. Together we raise awareness and funds for international relief and development, as well as local hunger-fighting. A portion of the proceeds goes to area food pantries like ours.
I walk because they walk. People all over the world walk great distances for water, food and medicine. I’m fortunate; I don’t have to. But I walk to support them.
Last year a Grace group walked and talked its way through town on a beautiful fall day. But we go rain or shine in solidarity for those who do the same around the world for food, medicine or water.
If you can walk and you can talk, participate with us:
• Sign up to walk.
• Sponsor a walker when invited to do so.
Each week we end our worship by saying in part- And now, Father, send us out to do the work you have given us to do to love and serve you…. Join us in this work. WE walk because THEY walk.
