Daniel is leaving

Dear People of Grace,

It is with mixed emotion that we share the news that Daniel has accepted a new position as rector of Christ Church of the Ascension in Paradise Valley, Arizona, and will be leaving Grace Episcopal Church at the end of November. We are happy for his new calling, but sorry to see him go.

daniel 2We have benefitted so much from Daniel’s leadership. Under his guidance, we have developed a simple, but powerful, mission centered around Welcome, Worship, Study, and Serve. The Food Pantry moved into the brown garage and Jubilee House remodeled its space to accommodate the increased needs of guests. Our budget grew substantially. Daniel asked me to let you know how grateful he is for the past seven years and how much he has grown under our care. While many Episcopal churches in our diocese are coming up short, Grace has been a place of abundance, and that will not change.

Perhaps the most immediate repercussion of Daniel’s announcement is that we will not be moving to new service times in Advent. We will continue with our 8 am and 10 am services during the search and table the decision about whether a change is needed until a new rector arrives.

We will celebrate Daniel’s ministry and good works after services on November 14 and 15. Daniel will continue to preach through November 29 and we will say farewell to him that day.

The vestry will appoint a search committee and work with the Bishop to identify an interim priest to serve Grace during the 12 -18 months it typically takes to complete the process and call a candidate. There should be no anxiety over this timeline.

We welcome your feedback and look forward to working closely with you during this time of enhanced lay ministry.

Yours in Christ,

Donna Olendorf, Senior Warden
Jeff Tibbits, Junior Warden
