This weekend, the Seekers teen youth group will begin selling tickets for the Community Dinner that will raise funds for their mission trip to the Dominican Republic. The event will be held on Saturday, April 23, at 6:00 p.m., and will offer an authentic Dominican dish with an atmosphere in true Dominican style! The cost is $20 per person or $55 for a family.
The one week mission trip will take place in mid-June and will include three of our Seeker youth and two adult leaders. The group is headed to the north coast town of Puerto Plata where they will be lodged while working at the nearby mission of San Simon Apostal. There they will be assisting with two important projects already underway: the installation of solar panels for reliable electric power, and a new water well.
The Diocese of the Dominican Republic is our sister Diocese, and you may recall that in 2011, Grace Church generously supported the original construction of the Church of San Simon with a building grant of $10,000. The Seeker mission trip this year should be viewed as a continuation of our Church’s support in having our team down there working on these critical improvements.
The Diocese of Western Michigan has long been involved with San Simon Apostal, and we are grateful that the Diocese is contributing so much towards this Seeker trip. In fact, they are funding all of the travel expense, food, and lodging, which amounts to about two-thirds of the total expense. This will leave about $1,000 per person needed to send our group, and we are well on our way to having that amount available through our previous fundraisers that you have supported in purchasing wreathes and pies! Now we are in the home stretch, and we hope that we will earn a bit more through your support of our dinner. We hope to see you there…and thank you!
