cookie-walkHelp us help others by attending the best holiday cookie and treat event in town! This is the place to find all the cookies, jams, and special treats that you need for holiday entertaining and gift-giving. We’ve changed the name of our event to better reflect our purpose and to help the community know that funds raised via cookie sales are returned to the community and beyond. The charities we’ll support this year are the Grace Food Pantry, Meals on Wheels of NMCAA, and Little by Little Haiti (hurricane relief). We will also tithe back 10% of the proceeds to the Parish Life Fund, with the intention of continuing our long history of making improvements to the kitchen and parish hall.

How the Cookie Walk changed our Kitchen and Parish HallBack in the late 1980’s the Parish Life Committee (now defunct) determined that they needed a way to raise funds for kitchen and parish hall improvements that the annual budget could not cover. Other community churches and organizations had been successful with holiday cookie sales, and the Cookie Walk Extravaganza was born! We have been able to make some significant and noticeable improvements, including all the white cabinets in the parish hall and kitchen, a new dishwasher and countertops in the kitchen, the nice matching stainless flatware for funerals and special occasions, the new chairs and tables for the parish hall, and many smaller projects.

Cookies Sales available at weekend services Dec. 10 & 11 at 2003 Prices – $7 per poundWe’ll return to our habit of selling after weekend services if we have enough cookies and treats to do so. Last year we were sold out by 1pm on Saturday. The more contributions of cookies and treats we have, the more likely we’ll be able to sell them after weekend services. Help us make that a reality!

How you can help us make Cookies for a Cause a successWe need people who are willing to help us set up for the Cookie Walk, staff the event and help clean up afterwards, as well as people to help us during cookie intake on Dec. 9th. We need lots of people to bake a batch or two of your favorite holiday cookies or treats. Non-cookie items sell well! The days when three or four nice little old ladies made 300 dozen cookies are gone. If many of us make a batch or two, we’ll have plenty by Dec. 10th. Russian Tea Cakes, Decorated Sugar Cookies and Linzer Cookies were the first to sell out last year. We have freezer space available for those who want to start baking now, and many recipes if you need inspiration. If you are unable to bake or will be out of town, consider making a donation instead. Make your check payable to Grace Church, with Cookies for a Cause on the memo line. Sign-up boards are in the Commons, and we hope you’ll join us!
