Chancel Choir shares God’s message through song
Chancel Choir is responsible for leading the musical liturgy at the Sunday 10:00 am worship service through the singing of hymns, Psalms, anthems and settings of the Mass. This group sings a variety of traditional choral literature and their repertoire includes Palestrina, Bach, Tallis, and Vaughan-Williams, as well as living composers such as Rutter and Gjello. They also work on singing the Anglican Psalter and chanting various parts of the liturgy. Chancel Choir has led Evensong services during Lent and at Christmas and Ascension.
The members of Chancel Choir pray together, but also like to have fun. There is an annual Christmas party and an end-of-the-year picnic in June. From time to time you will see the entire group headed out to brunch after worship. And each Advent they team together with Grace Harmony and Joyful Noise to go caroling at some of the local nursing homes.
Chancel Choir is directed by Jason Hubbard and accompanied by organist/pianist Karin Willman. Rehearsals are typically held for two hours on Thursday evenings. The group also meets to warm-up on Sunday mornings before the 10 o’clock worship service. While reading music and having a beautiful voice are certainly helpful, they are not requirements for joining Chancel Choir. Instead, a love of sharing God’s message through song and a willingness to stretch oneself is all that is necessary – everything else can be taught! Please join us.
