“Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all you lands. Serve the Lord with gladness. Come into God’s presence with Thanksgiving.” Psalm 100 (RSV)
Joyful Noise is a music ministry within Grace that focuses on children and provides them with an opportunity to participate in worship through a formal children’s choir. Students meet once a week to rehearse, learn music and prepare for worship. Currently they are using the sequenced curriculum Voice for Life developed by the Royal School of Church Musicians. Through rehearsals children learn the formalities of reading and performing music, but they also discuss worship and traditions: why we do what we do within the worship service. Each rehearsal ends with a prayer circle as the children share their concerns for their families, pets, friends, the homeless and others in our community.
Each year Joyful Noise members also participate in several service (and fun!) projects. This past year they joined Chancel Choir and Grace Harmony members in singing Christmas carols at several local nursing homes. In February they spent a Saturday baking cookies for the homeless visiting the Jubilee House.
Membership is open to any child in grades 1-8; there are no auditions. For more information, contact Jason Hubbard, Choir Director.
