Afghan Migrant Ministry Update

Afghan Migrant Ministry Update

With your help over the past 18 months, the Afghan Migrant Ministry Project has participated in successfully resettling four wonderful families from Afghanistan.  All the men are working, the children are doing well in public schools, and the mothers all speak English and will be driving by the end of summer.  All four families have been enabled to own vehicles . . . a necessity in this country, and especially in Traverse City. Thank you for your interest and generosity.

Two new Afghan families have arrived in the past few weeks.  As expected, they are relatives of two of the families which we have assisted in resettling.  One is a young family with three young children, and the other is a family with four active boys – ages 3 to 13.  The AMMP will be working with Bethany Christian Services to acquire household necessities, appropriate vehicles, good jobs, health care, and other services for these new additions to our growing Afghan community in Traverse City.

Currently, the AMMP committee is working to raise about $10,000 over the next two months to cover move-in and start-up expenses.  Donations may be made to Grace Church, and 1005 of your donation is used to support the families. If you have an extra automobile that you don’t need, vehicles donations are welcome. We also need volunteers to help with transportation and practicing English. Contact Fr. Derek to volunteer or for more information, at dquinn@gracetc.org or 231-492-0724.
