The Advent Season at Grace

advent wreathAdvent is a time of preparation and anticipation as we look to the celebration of the birth of Christ.  At Grace we have many opportunities to help you in your personal preparation during this season of the church year.

Devotional Guides are available on both the tract rack and the credenza in the Commons.  We have selected a variety of devotional readings to lead you in your daily prayer.  There are also booklets with ideas for use with children and families. This year we will also have Advent Calendars for you to use at home.

Grace Harmony and Fr. Carlton will be leading a weekly Wednesday evening Eucharist beginning on November 30. Using the liturgy This is Our Story, and simple songs, this service will begin at 6:30 PM each week.

Advent Quiet Morning is Saturday, December 3, from 10-11:15 AM in the Sanctuary.  This morning of quiet prayer is hosted by the Centering Prayer Group.

St. Nicholas is scheduled to arrive on Sunday, December 4 at the 10 AM service.  He will remind us of his heritage of giving, and ask our children to help “purchase” can goods from congregation members for our Pantry (remember to bring items that day!)

Lessons and Carols, From Darkness into Light, will be Sunday, December 4 at 5:00 PM.  Using readings from the Old and New Testaments interspersed with anthems and songs, we will remember the stories of God’s people and the promise of Emmanuel.   Joyful Noise and Chancel Choir will be leading the music of this service.

Musical groups from Grace and Bethlehem Lutheran Church are planning concerts with the Carols of Christmas.  On Saturday, December 17 the concert will be at Grace at 7 PM.  Bethlehem will host on Sunday, December 18 at 3 PM. Chancel Choir and Joyful Noise are participating, as well as the Hand bell, Steel Drum and Adult choirs from Bethlehem.

And don’t forget our Saturday evening and Sunday morning Eucharist services!  Readings and the music of our liturgy will reflect this time of anticipation and preparation.
